This online, on-demand training course is designed for both new and previously-trained employees and addresses both the state and federal hazardous waste regulations applicable to generators. It is specifically designed to instruct employees in the requirements as they pertain to generating and accumulating hazardous waste in their state and therefore integrates the state environmental department’s state-specific requirements which supersede the federal in “authorized RCRA program” states. Training is required every year.

Employees who require this training would include those who have a role in handling or otherwise managing hazardous wastes.

Those employees may have any or all of the following responsibilities: characterizing wastes, labeling containers, adding waste to containers, maintaining containers in satellite or central accumulation areas, recordkeeping and reporting, reviewing or completing hazardous waste manifests, or oversight of any of the aformentioned activites. 

TRAINING CONTENT 

  • Module 1 introduces the course and covers the history of RCRA, applicability of regulations, waste determinations, universal waste, and generator status.
  • Module 2 discusses documentation and record-keeping, hazardous waste reporting, administrative requirements, and emergency preparedness.
  • Module 3 covers operating standards, onsite accumulations, satellite accumulations, and pre-transport requirements.

The course is presented in the form of pre-recorded video and animations, with numerous interactions to keep you engaged. The course should take approximately 5 hours to complete, but can be paused/resumed as needed. When you are finished with the content, you will take an assessment test to certify you have completed this course and receive the certificate of completion.This course is on-demand and can be started at any time.


Meet your Lead Instructor:

Erin Stolz is an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Consultant for Triumvirate in the Greater New York City Area. She has extensive experience managing hazardous waste programs for a wide range of clientele, including Healthcare, Research and Life Sciences, Manufacturing, and Higher Education. Erin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Resource Management from Binghamton University and has a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental and Occupational Health Science.
